Ukraine are Eurovision 2016 winners - full results

Ukraine's Jamala won the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

The 32-year-old singer has triumphed against second placed Australia and third placed Russia at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday evening with her track ‘1944’.

Speaking after her win, she said: “I know that you sing songs about peace and love but actually, I really want peace and love to everyone. Thank you Europe.”

The British entry of ‘You’re Not Alone’ by Joe and Jake was well received by the excited crowd at the arena but they only received 62 points, placing them 23rd on the leaderboard.

Other highlights were The Netherlands entry Douwe Bob, who excited the crowds with catchy pop song ‘Slow Down’ whilst Russia’s Sergey Lazarev wowed with the clever screen graphics in ‘You Are The Only One’.

Isreal’s entry of ‘Made of Stars’ by Hovi Star blew the roof off the arena and was easily the best ballad of the night and host country Sweden’s entry by Frans of ‘If I Were Sorry’ proved to be a hit with the crowd.

During the contest, Graham paid a heartfelt tribute to Sir Terry Wogan, who was a commentator for the UK’s coverage of the song contest for 35 years until 2009, after he tragically passed away in January this year after a short battle with cancer.

He said: “Tonight's Eurovision is a bittersweet one for all of us as it's the first contest since the death of Terry Wogan. Eight years ago when I first started presenting Eurovision he kindly and very graciously phoned me and said 'Don't ever have a drink before song nine.’

“Well this is song nine. And while the crowd in the global arena cheer, I would urge you back home in the UK to raise a cup, a glass, a mug to the man who has always been the voice of Eurovision, Sir Terry Wogan.”

Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake also wowed with a performance of his brand new single ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ and a fantastic rendition of one of his most well known tracks ‘Rock Your Body’.

The show’s hosts Måns Zelmerlöw and Petra Mede also surprised the crowd by performing a track called ’Love Love Peace Peace’ about the perfect formula to triumph at the Eurovision Song Contest.
